Japanese Film Festival

Japanese Film Festival
This hypothetical event was created for a course that I took this year. I chose to make packaging and marketing for the Japanese Film Festival in Little Tokyo. The requirements is to provide a poster, brochure, and packaging to give away during the festival. All the items are created to be constant with each other and reflect a sense of the Japanese culture.
The creation began with the poster. I wanted to create a welcoming, soft, yet beautiful design. Inspired by the wonderful cherry blossoms, I incorporated them to all of the elements to keep the consistency. I also made vectored film-like elements such as the clapboard, movie tickets, and film reel.

After completing the poster, I started creating the brochure. This project was a bit more tedious to make because i had to keep in mind on how the design would incorporate with the accordion fold because I wanted a die-cut of the design. As you can see, I kept the design of the poster on the front of the brochure.
To tie everything together, I created the packaging by taking the boat riders and cherry blossoms into another scenery to refresh yet keep the consistency of the design. I made collectable button pins, popcorn bag, and custom chopsticks for the visitors to receive at the event. To carry everything together, I made a simplified designed bag with embossed details on the Japanese lettering. I also included the embossed details on the other packaging such as on the word popcorn. As the final touch on the design, I added the window opening on the popcorn an the chopstick cover to bring in the die-cut element from the brochure.

I used Adobe illustrator and photoshop to create the illustrations and brought all the elements onto Indesign to set the flat design.
